What is the International Baccalaureate Program?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a rigorous diploma program for students in grades 11 and 12.  The curriculum is prescribed by the International Baccalaureate Organization, based in Geneva, Switzerland.  An IB diploma is recognized by universities in Ontario and throughout the world.  Students who accept the challenge of IB should be highly motivated, academically-oriented students.

All IB courses at BCI are integrated with the Ontario Secondary School curriculum, so that IB students who successfully complete the program are awarded the International Baccalaureate Diploma as well as the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Students enter the IB Program in grade 11, and have two years to complete diploma requirements.  In order for students to be fully prepared for IB, all pre-IB students must complete the International Academic Preparation Program (IAPP) in grades 9 and 10.  Students who have not completed the IAPP may still be considered for the program after consultation with the principal and IB coordinator.

BCI offers the following IB courses:

Group 1: English HL

Group 2: French “B” SL or HL

Group 3: History SL or HL

Group 4: Biology SL or HL,

Group 5: Math SL

Group 6: Chemistry SL

Students who are pursuing Math or Science at the post-secondary level should take both Biology and Chemistry, instead of a Group 6.

Certificates

Students may, upon approval of the principal and IB Coordinator, work towards a certificate from the IBO in one or more subjects.  Contact Student Services for more information.

Fee Structure

Students should expect to pay approximately CAN$ 250 per Group in examination fees per certificate course. Students taking the full diploma programme will pay approximately CAN$ 800.  IB examination and registration fees are set by the International Baccalaureate Organization. These fes are on top of the regular tuition fee.
