Get ready for Medicine @home Canada and UK

16th December 2020 to 6th January 2021 from 10:00 - 12:00 GMT. There will be no lessons on the following holiday days: 24th to 27th December 2020 and 31st to 3rd January 2021.

Get ready for Medicine @home is a tailor-made 40-hour course covered over 3 weeks for students preparing to study medicine. Our interactive and inspiring course is designed and led by the UK and Canadian medical students who can teach and advise from their own personal experiences. 

This course is for you if you are:

• Would like to learn about the application process firsthand from successful applicants.
• Wanting extra support in applying to medical school.

Get Ready for Medicine is accredited by CPD - Continuing Professional Development After successful completion of the three-week course you will receive an officially recognized certificate about your newly gained qualification - perfect to enclose to your university application to prove you are working hard towards your future medical career.

Course Content

Thanks to the small group of students - maximum 4 students in one group - during the Get ready for Medicine @home course we focus on individual students as well as integrating elements of peer teaching and self-directed learning, which are essential skills in higher education. Students will enjoy this stimulating and immersive medicine online course covering intensive teaching on:

• Application process for medical school including interview practice, writing your personal statement,
• UK and Canada Medical Admission Tests (BMAT and UCAT),
• Clinical Relevance of Biology - pathogens and immune system, respiration and homeostasis
• Research skills and developing your own research project,
• Presentation skills,
• Communication skills
• Developing peer teaching and self-directed learning skills,
• One-to-one session tailored around your learning needs,
• Hot topic: Viruses & disease control

Assessment

You receive regular, detailed assessment to help you develop quickly during the course. We give you feedback on your personal and professional skills, your written work and practical application. You are assessed on academic performance and attitude towards learning in lessons and this assessment is documented in your weekly report. You are given an A-D grade with A representing excellent effort and consistent positive attitude to learning and D representing unsatisfactory effort and achievement. We celebrate the individuality of our students and their achievement is benchmarked against their own ability and goals.
