Over 160,000 people call the Avon Maitland Schools Canada District their home. The Avon Maitland District covers the counties of Huron, Ontario’s West Coast, and Perth, famous for the Stratford Festival. The Avon Maitland District School Board is a full service, public, English school district in southwestern Ontario, bordering Lake Huron (beautiful beaches and fabulous sunsets) and covering some of the most productive agricultural land in Canada.

The Ontario’s West Coast Vacation Guide describes Huron County as a “patchwork quilt of rural Canadian towns, farm landscapes, parks and Lake Huron shoreline, knit together by agriculture heritage dating back almost two hundred years. Whether you want to relax in the sun on the shores of sparkling Lake Huron, sample five star cuisine at area restaurants, visit one of the many museums and attractions, experience world class theatre, go hiking or fishing, relax at a country inn, motel, campground or bed and breakfast, explore the many antique and specialty shops, cycle the picturesque countryside and heritage streetscapes, go golfing, sailing snowmobiling or cross country skiing, Huron County is a vacation destination of charm, culture, beauty and endless possibilities!”

We are active in the performing arts, housing in our district the world famous Stratford Shakespearean Festival and the home of Canadian theatre - the Blyth Festival.

The Avon Maitland District School Board provides a full service, public, English education with a focus on student success. Our mission is to: Engage, Inspire and Innovate and we believe that students, staff and parents are “Always Learning”.

Of course Stratford is known for many things, but the world famous Stratford Shakespeare Festival tops them all. The annual six month theatrical spectacular attracts hundreds of thousands of people from around the globe. Among the benefits of having a Stratford in your district is the connections our schools have with professional live theatre and the world’s acting elite. We also don’t mind mentioning that pop idol Justin Bieber is from Stratford and attended our elementary and secondary schools.

Most of the Board’s secondary schools offer superior music, and drama programs, high spirited athletics in many sports. A number of schools have been honoured with provincial, national and even international awards in these areas. Avon Maitland is also host to the first even Baseball Academy which provides a high achieving academic education along with the best baseball training available anywhere in the world.

Enjoying four full seasons, the area thrives with outdoor activities year round.

The district extends over 6,100 square kilometres as urban comforts unite within a rural environment dotted with thriving communities. In Huron County these include Goderich – Canada’s Prettiest Town and the Town of Wingham which, as part of North Huron, is rich with cultural, historical and recreational opportunities is a place to enjoy hiking, antiquing, fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling and more.

In South Huron the quaint but bustling little town of Exeter springs in to overdrive each year with its annual Exeter Ram Rodeo held in early August and the Hamlet of Walton has played host to the TransCan Motocross Championships for the past 20 years. The Ontario’s West Coast Vacation Guide describes Huron County as a “patchwork quilt of rural Canadian towns, farm landscapes, parks and Lake Huron shoreline, knit together by agriculture heritage dating back almost two hundred years.
